Traditional Gravy

A smooth, rich gravy made with broth and a simple roux. Perfectly sized for small holiday dinners and delicious with any Christmas main.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups chicken or turkey broth (or pan drippings)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: ½ teaspoon dried thyme or rosemary

Method
 

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in flour to form a roux; cook 1–2 minutes.
  3. Slowly pour in broth while whisking continuously.
  4. Simmer 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and herbs if using.
  6. Serve warm.
