Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions, tortilla chips

Method
 

  1. In a large pot, cook ground meat over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Add onion and garlic; sauté until softened, 3–4 minutes.
  3. Stir in beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
  4. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Cover and cook 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  6. Serve hot with optional toppings.
