Egg Nog

Ingredients
  

  • 4 egg yolks
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch cinnamon
  • Optional: ¼ cup rum or bourbon

Method
 

  1. Whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick.
  2. Heat milk, cream, nutmeg, and cinnamon until steaming (not boiling).
  3. Slowly whisk hot milk into yolks to temper.
  4. Pour mixture back into the pot and cook on low until slightly thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla (and rum if using).
  6. Chill or serve warm with extra nutmeg on top.
