Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Classic mashed potatoes made rich and smooth — perfect alongside gravy or turkey.

Ingredients
  

  • 5 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 yellow onion, diced (optional)
  • ½ cup milk (or more as needed)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Method
 

  1. Add potatoes to a large pot, cover with cold water, and bring to a boil.
  2. Simmer 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  3. While boiling, sauté onion in butter until translucent (optional).
  4. Drain potatoes and mash with milk, butter, and sautéed onion.
  5. Season with salt and pepper and serve warm.
