Method
- Add potatoes to a large pot, cover with cold water, and bring to a boil.
- Simmer 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender.
- While boiling, sauté onion in butter until translucent (optional).
- Drain potatoes and mash with milk, butter, and sautéed onion.
- Season with salt and pepper and serve warm.
